NaNoWriMo!

It's almost November, which means it's almost time for NaNoWriMo! NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. The idea is to write a novel of a certain length between November 1 and November 30.

The idea behind NaNoWriMo is that everyone has a novel within them but too few of us let the novel out. They believe that this is because we get really obsessed with making it perfect while we go along and then we get frustrated and ever finish it. NaNoWriMo encourages us to write without editing. Once the story is written, we can go back and edit it if we want to, but we can't edit a story that we never finish writing!

So, here's how this will work at JFK. Students who want to participate need to sign up on the Young Writers Program NaNoWriMo site and set a word count goal of 10,000 words. Then make sure you give your username to Librarian Chelimsky so that she can add you to our YWP Virtual Classroom. Once November 1 comes along, you can start writing your story. You will need to finish writing your story by 11:59pm on November 30. Please write your story in Google Docs! If you complete the word count goal of 10,000 words, you will earn a reward from the library! In order to be eligible for the reward, you must be part of our YWP Virtual Classroom.

For more instructions or for help setting up an account, please come to the library to see Ms. Chelimsky!
