NaNoWriMo!

Happy Tuesday, everybody!

It is almost November. Do you know what that means? It means that it is almost time for NaNoWriMo?

"Librarian Chelimsky," I hear you ask, "what the heck is NaNoWriMo?!"

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. NaNoWriMo was founded on the principal that everyone has a novel within them and that the reason most of us don't write that novel is that we get too bogged down in editing as we go along, then we get frustrated and quit. The idea is that, instead of doing that, people should just try to get the story out by trying to write a certain number of words in a certain amount of time. The "certain amount of time" in question is the 30 days of November. The "certain number of words"...well, that depends. For adults, the minimum number of words is 50,000. Young writers, however, can set their own word goals.

We in the library are big supporters of this idea and we want to encourage you to participate! Therefore, we are running a program with a reward attached to it. If you complete a project of 10,000 words or more, we will give you a gift certificate to the Scholastic Book Fair (November 28 to December 2)!

In order to participate, you must come to the library and set up your NaNoWriMo account with Mrs. Schmidt or me. Please come in before November so that we can get you all set up and ready to go!

Participating in NaNoWriMo and need some help or someone to bounce ideas off of? During the month of November, I will be here on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 to provide a place for you to work on your project or to help you brainstorm.

For more information or to set up an account, please stop by! Good luck!
