When we return from vacations, students will be asked to sign up for the activities that they would like to participate in during our Day of Service (May 25, rain date of May 30)! You may want to spend some time over vacation considering what you'd like to do. So, here are your options:
- BABYSITTING/CPR COURSE: This will be the CDH Supersitters course, combined with CPR training. It will be taught by trainers from the hospital, assisted by our staff. Students will receive CDH certificates of participation!
- BAG SHARE: Students will make cloth bags for the re-useable bag sharing program.
- BIRD HOUSES: Build houses for birds and bats-- they will be donated to the community and hung up on the fence around JFK.
- COOKING: Soup and/or a meal will be made and donated to the Manna House soup kitchen for the Saturday meal.
- ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS/PRESCHOOLS: Work with classroom teachers to help younger students with work or reading. Jobs might also include cleaning/organizing in classrooms and/or outdoor yard work.
- INDOOR BEAUTIFICATION and WINDOWS: Students will wash windows and clean inside JFK.
- JAZZ BAND: Students in jazz band will play in a community concert. (this option is only available to students in jazz band)
- JFK ADS/COMMERCIALS: Students will make commercials and videos about JFK.
- JFK BANNER: Students will make a “Welcome to JFK” banner to display in our lobby.
- KNITTING: Students will be collaborating to knit a large blanket for donation to Safe Passage.
- LITTLE DRESSES FOR AFRICA:
- OUTDOOR BEAUTIFICATION: This job entails yard work and clean up. Groups will be assigned to various places in town, including Look Park, Rockridge Retirement Community, the VA, the bike path, Fitzgerald Lake, downtown Florence and outside at JFK.
- PAINTING THE PE TRAILER: Oversee a group of young painters.
- PETS: In this group you will make pet toys, beds and blankets for animals at Dakin.
- PINE RIDGE RESERVATION: Students will learn about the hardships kids on Native American reservations face and what can be done to help out. Then students will create artistic birthday cards to send to schools on the Pine Ridge Reservation to help Lakota students celebrate their birthdays.
- ROCKRIDGE GARDEN: Plant a flower and vegetable garden for the seniors at Rockridge.
- TRANSPERFORMANCE: Students will paint the sets for this summer’s Transperformance.
- WRITING ROOM: Students will write letters to soldiers and veterans.
