Happy Thursday everybody!
It's almost November. Do you know what that means? That means it's almost National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)!
What the heck is that? (I hear you ask.) It's a super exciting writing program! Basically the idea is to write a novel in one month by not worrying about perfection but rather about the number of words one writes. For adults, that number of words is set at a minimum of 50,000. But you are young writers, so you can set a word count goal of whatever you want!
How is this going to work at JFK? I'm so glad you asked. You create an account on the Young Writers Program NaNoWriMo site (please see Librarian Chelimsky if you would like to participate but do not feel your guardians would be comfortable with you having an online account), join our classroom (classroom code: IERCHCVD), accept the NaNoWriMo challenge, give your story a temporary title and a word count goal of 10,000, start to think about your story...and then, once November 1 comes around, write!
Are there prizes? Why yes, yes there are. If you complete a minimum of 10,000 words by the end of November 30, you will receive a gift certificate to the Scholastic Book Fair (coming in early December)! And yes, *everyone* who meets the 10,000 word minimum will receive that prize. But you must be part of our classroom OR have discussed it with Librarian Chelimsky.
Want to participate? Want more information? Come see Librarian Chelimsky!
