It's Banned Books Week! Every year, libraries all over the country draw attention to the problem of challenging and banning books. A "challenge" to a book means that a person or group of people request that a book be removed from a library or removed from free access at that library. In 2016, 323 challenges were reported to the American Library Association, but many go unreported. Not all challenges are successful. In fact, only about 10% are successful, due to the fact that many people - kids and adults - stand up against the attempted censorship.
What is censorship?
Why are books challenged?
